Hebron Electricity Participates in Final Workshop for Renewable Energy Projects in Lebanon




The Director General of Hebron Electricity, Eng. Abdul Raouf Al-Sheikh, participated in the renewable energy workshop under the title "RE UNDA Project Closing & Way Forward" held in Beirut, Lebanon between 13-15 / 12/2017. Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Eastern Europe (UNECE).

In turn, Eng. Al-Sheikh presented the projects that were prepared and worked on for two years through communication between the Hebron Electricity and the ESCWA. These projects include the installation of 1,000 kW of solar energy on rooftops, factories and commercial facilities for areas adjacent to the settlements, at a cost of $ 1.5 million, in addition to a 1,000 kW solar project on 10,000 m 2 ) At a total cost of $ 1.5 million and the installation of a power station (800-1,000 kW) to burn gas at the closed Yatta landfill site at a total cost of $ 2.5 million.

The presentation included a description of these projects, in addition to technical and financial analysis and feasibility study for each of them, in cooperation and coordination with the ESCWA Renewable Energy Advisor. He pointed out the need to find funding for these projects because of their importance. It was agreed that the company would be in contact with ESCWA to help provide this.

It is worth mentioning that most of the member countries of ESCWA participated in this workshop with similar and different projects. Most banks and international financial institutions such as the World Bank and IFC participated.

For his part, Eng. Abdul Raouf Al-Sheikh met with representatives of financiers, including IFC of the World Bank, and agreed with Sabra to contact the IFC representative in Jerusalem to discuss the matter with him. He also met with Henning Wuester, Finance Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Abu Dhabi Fund ADFD launches initiatives to finance renewable energy projects in developing countries (ESCWA member countries).following up the customer services and improving the quality of service provided to its subscribers.
